Description from the seller
This work is a captivating composition of diverse elements: it flows together into a single expressive whole. The artist behind this colorful work is the Brazilian Claudimar José da Costa, better known by his signature Claus Costa. This self-taught artist lives and works in Rio de Janeiro and has been active since 1992 as a painter of modern art.
From a young age, Claus Costa was inspired by his aunt, who was an artist herself. His admiration for great masters like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci led him to work at a drawing studio after his military service. There he studied anatomy, proportions, and various drawing and painting techniques—a solid foundation on which he further developed his own style.
After a period of artistic exploration, during which he combined figurative forms with painterly experiments, Claus Costa found his true expression in mixed media. In his current work he brings classic icons back to life, surrounded by an explosion of color and texture. He uses a range of materials—from newspaper and cardboard to cement and paint—into a single layered whole.
The result is an intriguing fusion of old and new, tradition and renewal. His iconic figures take on a modern, almost urban look, in which the rawness of the street and the depth of art history meet.
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
Shipping is available; we will then calculate the shipping costs after you make your purchase, based on your place of residence.
