Description from the seller
THE DREAM BATHTUB is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. This painting is a scene of a metaphysical atmosphere where the everyday and the impossible coexist in a space suspended outside of time. A classic bathtub, white porcelain and ornate feet, rests in the middle of a desolate esplanade. There are no walls, no domestic interior: only a distant horizon, a deep sky, and an insinuated architecture that recalls the quiet squares of metaphysical painting.
Over the bathtub, a zebra floats in the air with unsettling serenity. It does not fall, it does not run, it does not move: it simply remains suspended, like an apparition. Its presence introduces a poetic rupture between the real and the dreamlike. The zebra, an animal of absolute contrasts — black and white, light and shadow — becomes a symbol of duality, of the tension between reason and the subconscious.
The classic column situated to the left reinforces the timeless dimension of the scene. It is a vestige of order and tradition in an environment that, nevertheless, is governed by impossible laws. The floor, divided into large geometric slabs, provides structural stability, while the sky gradually assumes a blue hue, introducing an almost hypnotic atmospheric depth.
The bathtub, an intimate object associated with rest and purification, appears displaced toward an open, uninhabited territory. It thus becomes a metaphor for the inner space of thought: the place where dream, memory, and imagination take shape. The central faucet, small and contained, contrasts with the monumental silence that surrounds it.
The composition nods to the metaphysical and surrealist tradition, evoking echoes of the enigmatic and the poetic without slipping into narrative literalness. The scene does not explain; it suggests. The suspended zebra can be read as the materialization of free thought, the dream that floats above logic.
In this work, the void is not absence, but stage. Silence is not lack, but tension. "The Bathtub of Sleep" offers a visual meditation on imagination as a territory where the domestic and the extraordinary meet.
A work with strong symbolic impact and refined spatial construction, where the balance between technical realism and dreamlike atmosphere creates a powerful, enigmatic, and deeply contemporary image.
