Description from the seller
The Orange Cat is a 70×100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García.
The composition, apparently simple — a cat seen from behind, a finger holding a white sphere, a coral wall and a greenish door — shifts reality toward a territory suspended between the everyday and the enigmatic.
The influence of Giorgio de Chirico is felt in the silent atmosphere and in the space’s theatricality. The wooden floor, the clean wall, the door that introduces a side plane create an interior architecture where time seems to be suspended. As in the master’s metaphysical squares, the isolated object takes on a symbolic dimension: the finger becomes a column, a vertical axis, an almost sculptural element. The shadow projected on the floor reinforces that sense of dramatic stillness.
At the same time, the white sphere suspended above the tip of the finger evokes the conceptual universe of René Magritte. The impossible balance, the presence of a perfect object in a realistic context, the play between logic and eeriness, place the work in the realm of poetic surrealism. It is not about the fantastical, but the unsettlingly plausible.
The cat — a figure traditionally associated with mystery and intuition — occupies the compositional center with a dignity almost sculptural. It does not participate in the human act; it observes it. It is a witness and mediator between the tangible and the mental. Its vibrant orange color introduces a Fauvist counterpoint against the coral background, generating chromatic tension and visual balance.
The scene does not narrate an action; it poses a question. What is really holding up the finger? Is the sphere matter, idea, or destiny? Is it the cat who observes, or are we the ones being observed?
The orange cat is a painting of formal precision and conceptual depth. It dialogues with the European surrealist tradition through a contemporary voice, constructing a space where silence weighs more than movement and where balance becomes a metaphor for human fragility.
