Description from the seller
EL APÓSTOL is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. In this painting a classical sculptural head emerges suspended in front of a geometric and silent architecture. The figure, bodiless, seems embedded in an intense yellow wall, as if the past had been trapped in the modern structure. Its empty and stony gaze does not observe: it remains.
The composition establishes a dialogue between times. The sculpture evokes Greco-Roman tradition, the solemnity of marble, the cultural heritage. However, the setting — with defined planes, long shadows, and a clear sky — alludes to the metaphysical language: deserted urban spaces, austere architecture, the tension between light and silence.
In the foreground, a red flower rises delicately but firmly. Beside it, a thorny branch casts a pronounced shadow on the ground. Both elements function as contrasting symbols: life and wound, beauty and sacrifice. The flower, organic and vibrant, contrasts with the mineral stillness of the head. The branch suggests pain, martyrdom, or trial.
The yellow wall acts as a symbolic field. It is not just a backdrop, but a presence. It divides the scene into blocks of pure color — black, blue, yellow — which structure the image with an almost architectural clarity. The defined shadows intensify the feeling of a moment frozen in time, a suspended instant.
The Apostle can be read as a reflection on faith, memory, and permanence. The classical head represents tradition, the passing down of the legacy. The flower suggests hope. The thorn recalls the sacrifice inherent to every belief or testimony.
A work that blends lyricism and solemnity, in which metaphysical language meets spiritual symbolism in a scene of deep stillness and poetic tension.
