Description from the seller
Mario Giacomelli (1925–2000)
Scanno, Abruzzo, Italy – 3 October 1959
Gelatin-silver print on baryte paper, signed and titled in pencil by the artist.
This photograph shows Giacomelli's iconic image "Scanno", one of the most celebrated photographs in postwar Italian photography.
This particular print has a personal and unusual provenance: it was privately gifted to close family members on the occasion of the marriage of Mario Giacomelli's sister. The work is therefore not commercially distributed and has always remained in private ownership.
The print is mounted on the original cardboard mount from that era, preserving the original handwritten label on the back with the title, location and date of the photograph. The cardboard also bears the stamp of an Italian framer ("Corniceria Palestrini"), which confirms the mounting from that period.
The photograph is signed and titled in pencil by Giacomelli.
Condition: very good overall condition, consistent with age. Original frame intact.
A rare opportunity to acquire a signed print of one of Giacomelli's most iconic images, with an interesting private provenance.
