A graffiti artist since 2000, Maxime Drouet has, throughout all these years, exclusively practiced his art on trains.
You’ve also run into them—his colleagues and him—not only on this line but all across France, across Europe, and around the world.
The artist's career suffered a brutal setback when, on an early morning in 2011, the transit police’s graffiti squad burst into his home to reproach him for having painted, under the alias Mank, trains—lots of trains and even trains painted by others—a practice common to this specialized unit that usually leaves decent people unmoved.
I was an actor in this movement. I was prevented from continuing to exist within it. I then became like a ghost. I crossed to the other side. Wandering. In order to try to participate differently in it. To have that feeling of always existing...
