Description from the seller
Yvaral – Rayonnette Bleu (1981) | No. 70/190 | Framed | Perfect condition
A powerful and elegant work by Yvaral (Jean-Pierre Vasarely, 1934–2002), one of the key artists within Op Art and kinetic art. In Rayonnette Bleu he uses tight geometry and subtle rhythm to create an optical vibration: the image seems to move as your position or gaze changes. The result is a timeless, modern piece that feels both graphic and “alive.”
The work is in perfect condition and beautifully framed.
The work is also produced in orange and purple. I also offer that on Catawiki. See my other listings!
The work
Rayonnette Bleu is an original color screen print, signed and numbered, from a limited edition of 190 copies. This copy is number 70/190. The composition is characteristic of Yvaral: repetition and variation according to a clear system, causing light, depth and movement to be optically invoked—without any actual movement in the paper.
Yvaral
Yvaral was more than “the son of” Victor Vasarely: he developed his own analytical art practice in which perception research was central. In 1960 he was co-founder of the Parisian Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV), an influential movement that approached art as research into optical effects, movement and the active role of the viewer.
From the 1970s, Yvaral worked increasingly explicitly with rules, series and calculated variations. In 1975 he even introduced the term “Numerical Art” for art built on numerical/algorithmic principles—an essential key to understanding the methodology behind works like Rayonnette Bleu.
Given the fragility of the object, preference for pickup (Amsterdam).
