Description from the seller
Felice Levini (Rome, 1956). This GENESI portfolio published by Galleria il Milione in Milan and Massimo Minini of Brescia contains 7 photolithographs, with direct contributions by Felice Levini accompanied by a text by Bruno Corà.
The photolithographs and the stone interventions were produced and printed in 100 copies, numbered in Arabic from 1/80 up to 80/80 and in Roman numerals I/XX to XX/XX at the R. Bulla Printing Works in Rome on July 30, 1989. This portfolio is number XIX of XX. The text was printed in Bodoni-type type in size 14 by Giorgio Bolzanaro, printer in Rome on September 12, 1979. The binding is by Sergio Bertoni, Rome. Each photolithograph in this portfolio is hand-numbered on the lower left and hand-signed on the lower right.
Felice Levini was born in Rome in 1956, where he still lives and works. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts, in 1978, together with Giuseppe Salvatori and Claudio Damiani, and later with Vittorio Messina and Mariano Rossano, he opened a space in Via S. Agata dei Goti managed by the artists themselves, which became a meeting place for exhibitions and poetry evenings. 1978 is also the year of his first group show titled “Artericerca ’78” held at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. In 1980 he joined the group of the “Nuovi-Nuovi” which debuted with a show curated by Renato Barilli at the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna of Bologna. From 1982 Levini subjected his works to a deconstruction process reminiscent of Seurat’s divisionism, creating bidimensional, pleasantly decorative images that highlight the idea of a spotted “wall.” In the latter part of the 1980s, these works were followed by more compact and three-dimensional pieces dominated by a solid, geometric structure that also led to linear architectures. Self-portraits, animals, arabesques are recurring themes in these years. Over the 1990s his work oscillates between abstract and figurative; in his installations, the repetition of the image, which makes it abstract, is counterposed by the human presence, alive. In 1991 he exhibited at the XXXIV Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, in 1993 he took part in the XLV Venice Biennale, and in 1996 at the XII Rome Quadriennale. In 2013 he exhibited at GNAM, the National Gallery of Modern Art.
Felice Levini exhibited at Galleria il Milione in 1988 and again in 1994 in a group show together with Accardi, Dadamaino, Olivieri, Valentini, Mulas, Rotelli.
