Description from the seller
Yvaral – Rayonette Violette | Print 190 | Op Art / Kinetic art
With Rayonette Violette, Yvaral (Jean-Pierre Vasarely, 1934–2002) shows why he lies at the heart of European Op Art and kinetic art. In this composition he builds an optical “shimmer” with geometric repetition and subtle tonal differences in purple/violet: the piece seems to move and gain depth as your gaze shifts. It is precisely that tension between logic and sensory experience that makes Yvaral so collectible.
This work was also produced in blue and orange. I offer those as well, in the same frame—see photos. Check my other listings.
The work
Rayonette Violette is an original color serigraph, signed and numbered, issued in a limited edition of 190 copies. This piece is number 114/190. The print is in perfect condition and is framed in a black frame, which makes the contrast and the optical energy of the composition stand out even more.
Yvaral
Yvaral was more than “the son of” Victor Vasarely: he developed his own analytical art practice in which perception research was central. In 1960 he co-founded the Paris-based Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV), an influential movement that approached art as research into optical effects, movement and the active role of the viewer.
From the 1970s onward, Yvaral worked increasingly explicitly with rules, sequences and calculated variations. In 1975 he even introduced the term “Numerical Art” for art built according to numerical/algorithmic principles—a key to understanding the methodology behind works such as Rayonnette Violette.
Given the fragility of the piece, free pickup in Amsterdam is preferred.
