This dignified wooden sword stand was crafted in the early 20th century for the elegant display of Japanese swords such as katana, wakizashi, and tanto. Designed to accommodate up to three blades, it offers a refined way to present a collection while enhancing the visual impact of each piece.
The stand features a finely executed openwork panel at its centre, intricately carved with a floral arabesque motif. This traditional decorative pattern symbolises continuity, growth, and enduring prosperity, making it an auspicious design often associated with longevity and harmonious development. The graceful curves of the upright supports further complement the flowing complexity of the pierced carving, creating a balanced and visually appealing composition.
Finished in a deep-toned coating over wood, the stand provides a calm and understated backdrop that allows the mounted swords to remain the focal point of the display. It is suitable for both traditional interiors and more contemporary decorative settings.
Fair to Good antique condition. A previous adhesive repair can be seen on part of the left upright support. General age-related wear including surface dirt, minor scratches, paint loss, cracks, and small chips are visible throughout. Structural integrity has been maintained and the stand remains suitable for display use, though an appreciation of antique character is recommended. Please refer to the photos for details.
