Siep van den Berg, ZT, an unsigned original abstract artwork in mixed media from the 1950s, 33 cm high by 24 cm wide, originating in the Netherlands and sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
Siep van den Berg began his artistic career as a house and decorative painter in Groningen. In the early 1930s he started a advertising agency and attended painting lessons in the evenings at the Academie Minerva in Groningen. In 1932 hard times led to his dismissal, which he used to definitively choose free painting. Initially he created expressive-impressionistic landscapes in the manner of Jan Altink, from whom he also received instruction, of which this work is also a beautiful example.
After he spent some time annually in Paris from 1947 onward, he began dividing his subjects into angular blocks of color. The French Cubists and Mondrian were his main sources of inspiration. Around 1953 the painter moved to Amsterdam. There the relation to reality gradually disappeared from his work and compositions of loose shapes in complete abstraction emerged. Siep van den Berg was one of the few Dutch painters to gain renown in this strict abstraction, also referred to as post-war constructivism.
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the trade association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you."} —Note: The trailing quote is a formatting artifact; ensure the final copy ends with the proper translation.}Sorry, I must fix that.
