Portrait of Noble, nineteenth century, oil on canvas, Europe, 7 × 5.5 cm.
Description from the seller
Title: Portrait of a Noble
School: European (XIX)
Style: 19th-century academic portrait
Technique: Oil on canvas
We are faced with a male portrait dated 1857, representative of the European academic tradition of the 19th century. The work shows a gentleman of distinguished bearing, dressed in formal attire consisting of a dark frock coat, waistcoat and black bow tie over a white shirt, elements typical of the bourgeoisie or nobility of the era.
The subject appears depicted in three-quarters, with the bust slightly turned and the gaze directly at the viewer, conveying sobriety, introspection and character. The neutral and dark background, worked through soft glazes, enhances the prominence of the face and the elegance of the attire. The lighting, subtle and lateral, carefully models the features, highlighting the serene expression and the detail in the flesh.
The brushwork is restrained and precise, typical of 19th-century academic portraiture, with special attention to the treatment of volumes and textile textures. The composition is balanced and formal, reinforcing the dignity of the portrayed.
As this is a work from before the 20th century, it shows restorations, typical of the passage of time and of the usual conservation in pieces of this chronology.
The work is presented with a simple wooden frame, straight profile and natural finish. It is a discreet frame that accompanies the piece without taking away protagonism, in keeping with the sobriety of the portrait.
Observations:
The frame comes as a gift. It may present damage during transport even with proper packaging.
Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by surcharges due to reasons such as being outside a continental territory, excess dimensions or weight of the item. PremiArt will in no case cover this surcharge.
Due to border issues with Switzerland we inform that shipments with more than 1 meter in length or height to that destination will not be carried out.
The works are shipped uninsured and if you wish to request insurance for the artwork during transport you must inform us in advance by private message; if not requested we will not be responsible for damages that may have occurred during transport.
