BIOGRAPHY: Gérard VIELLEVIE was a French painter, born in La Queue-les-Yvelines, near Paris, in 1939. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. A student of the classics and a former pupil of the renowned National School of Decorative Arts in Paris, he drew inspiration from post-Impressionist art and created sculptures and mosaics based on his inherent interest in this style. He began making bas-reliefs, sculptures, and frescoes for many schools and town halls in cities such as Paris, Cannes, Strasbourg, Lille and Saint-Tropez, which can now be found in many hotels in these cities. He was close to the painter Paul Aïzpiri.
Faithful to the tradition of the leading post-Impressionist painters such as Van Gogh, Vieillevie’s work comprises still lifes, lush gardens, and flora. His work has been exhibited in Paris, Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul, and he received the Gold Medal of the International Lions Club for painting (1974). He died in 1992. Posthumously, in 1993, a major exhibition at the Katia Granoff Gallery was devoted to him.
