Description from the seller
Bruno Caruso (1927–2018)
Untitled – Female Portrait
Mixed media on original exhibition poster
Unique specimen.
Dimensions: about 70 x 40 cm.
Original work created by Bruno Caruso on the occasion of a solo exhibition at a private gallery.
It is an improvised intervention carried out directly on the typographic poster of the group show “Mostra Collettiva di Pittori Contemporanei”, as visible on the back of the support. The artist transformed the poster into an autonomous work, intervening with a decisive and fluid stroke to delineate an intense female face with swirling curls, executed with quick, nervous, and strongly expressive lines.
The drawing exhibits an extraordinary graphic synthesis: a few secure and dynamic strokes form a penetrating gaze and an elegant appearance, while the mass of hair unfolds into an almost calligraphic interweaving of black lines, creating a powerful chiaroscuro contrast. The work recalls the typographic force characteristic of Caruso’s graphic production, where the sign becomes a narrative and psychological element.
The intervention is signed at the bottom with an autograph dedication (“Bruno Caruso”), confirming the authenticity of the execution.
Unique work, not multiples.
Provenance: private collection / private gallery (no longer active today).
Good overall condition, with normal signs of time consistent with the age of the paper support.
