Description from the seller
DESCRIPTION OF THE COLLECTION
Composition:
No. 3 pipes in meerschaum (sea foam)
Shape: compact bent, consistent across the three specimens
Nozzles: black ebonite, classic shaping
Mounts: original metal bands with Peterson markings
Condition: used, with authentic natural patina (honey–amber), typical of proper aging of meerschaum
The three pipes form a homogeneous collection in style, period and quality, clearly intended for regular use rather than decorative.
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS AND MATERIALS
Bodies: natural solid meerschaum (not pressed)
Patina: natural, progressive, with no signs of artificial whitening
Mounts: silvered metal (nickel silver), with legible engraving “PETERSON”
Assembly: classic Peterson, with a well-proportioned mouthpiece and correct tenon
Chambers: consistent with regular use, with no visible structural burn marks
PROBABLE DATING
Period of production estimated:
1960s – early 1980s
Reasons for dating:
Style of Peterson metal mounts
Type of ebonite mouthpiece
Absence of modern markings or late serializations
Patina compatible with at least 40–60 years of life
Peterson meerschaum production still active in that period
CONDITION
General: good for age (see photos)
Signs of use
Uniform patina (positive element)
Intact mouthpieces
Original mounts, with normal surface oxidation
Not “restored” pieces: the conservation is honest and collector-appropriate.
MARKET VALUE (2026)
Value per piece (each):
EUR 180 – 260
(variable depending on chamber integrity and mouthpiece alignment)
Total collection value (3 pipes sold together):
EUR 500
Selling as a block as a coherent Peterson meerschaum collection is preferable and increases appeal compared to selling individually.
FINAL JUDGMENT Authentic collection
Historical Peterson production
Naturally patinated meerschaum
Ideal for a collector or for specialized sale
Quality collection, average within the general market for meerschaum.
