Storm glass barometer from Germany, circa 1980–1990, in a beechwood display cabinet with a mahogany finish and a thermometer from −3 to 50 °C, weighing 1300 g and measuring 50 cm high by 13 cm wide by 5 cm deep, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Beautiful storm glass barometer made after the example of Admiral Fitzroy (1805-1865).
He was an expert in navigation and meteorology.
Fitzroy could forecast the weather of the coming two days by the changes of a liquid in a glass tube. A particular mixture of water, alcohol and crystal salt in the glass tube was the secret of his barometer. In good weather the liquid in the glass tube was clear, while in stormy weather the liquid became cloudy.
This storm glass barometer works on exactly the same principle.
The carefully crafted wooden display case is made of beech wood and elegantly stained in a mahogany tone. In addition to the barometer, the display case also contains a thermometer with a range of -3 to 50 degrees Celsius.
Many photos added so it can be well assessed. Also a photo with a pen so the size can be determined.
Photos are part of the description.
The weather station is very carefully packed, sent by registered mail and insured with a track and trace code.
Also view my other lots and possibly save on shipping costs.
