Description from the seller
Oil painting on canvas depicting a female figure in a golden dress by Giuseppe Ciavolino
Giuseppe Ciavolino (1918-2011) was an important Italian artist born in Torre del Greco, trained at the Naples Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Alessandro Monteleone and Carlo Brancaccio, where he earned the prestigious Vincenzo Gemito scholarship. His painting is characterized by Mediterranean chromatic tones and a solid European-scale compositional approach, blending academic tradition with modern sensibility. In addition to painting, Ciavolino was a master engraver of cameos and coral, a teacher at the Liceo Artistico di Napoli, and Deputy Director of the Coral School in Torre del Greco.
This type of work attracts collectors of 20th-century Italian art and enthusiasts of Neapolitan figurative painting. Ciavolino’s portraits are particularly valued for technical quality, elegant composition, and Mediterranean warm coloration, making them interesting for those seeking works by Campanian artists with solid academic training and historical recognition. The market for these paintings is mainly composed of private Italian collectors, especially from the Campania region, who value the figurative painting tradition of the 20th century and the local artistic heritage.
