Marcello Boglione debuted as a painter at the Promotrice of Turin in 1909, and from 1922 he devoted himself almost exclusively to engraving, also engaging in initiatives to disseminate and valorize engraved graphics. He was called in 1934 to replace Cesare Ferro, recently deceased, in the position of Techniques of Engraving at the Albertina Academy, and in 1938 he obtained the titular chair. In his works such as Campagna, there is a great calm, a restrained love for the more absorbed aspects of nature in preference to the adventures of men who appear rarely and in the background, almost superfluous to the fuller expression of a trembling affection. Journalist Paolo Cesarini wrote of him: “For Boglione it is clear, a tangle of smooth birch branches, a flowering chestnut canopy, the reflections of a canal, the pathetically curling petal are panicky events, motives of creative emotion that endure from discovery to the completion of the work.” Present at all the Venice Biennales held from 1932 to 1954, in 1940 Marcello Boglione won the Volpi di Misurata Prize for engraving.
