Bouquet méditerranéen, oil on canvas by École catalane (1930s), Spain, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Catalan School, early 20th century
Floral still life
Oil on canvas
Interesting oil on canvas belonging to the Catalan school of the first half of the 20th century, representing an elegant floral still life with a composition centered on a dark vase holding a bouquet of vividly colored flowers.
The work presents a figurative painting language rooted in post-impressionism, characterized by loose and visible brushwork, with special attention to the volumetric construction through color and light. The treatment of the flowers, resolved with broad and dynamic strokes, brings freshness and spontaneity to the whole, while the neutral background emphasizes the main subject.
The color palette combines pinks, whites, yellows and intense reds contrasted with deep greens, generating visual balance and a decorative character typical of the Catalan still life of the 20th century. The execution shows technical confidence and a direct approach, close to the postwar Catalan figurative painting tradition.
Technique
Oil on canvas.
Condition report
General state in keeping with a work of its age. Noted:
slight surface wear and small pinpoint losses of paint on areas around the bottom edge,
slight craquelure typical of natural aging,
the stretcher shows a few spots of old woodworm, currently treated and inactive,
to the frame: marks and signs of use.
On the reverse an old stretcher coherent with the work’s chronology can be observed.
Frame
The work is framed.
The frame is included only as a courtesy and does not form part of the painting’s financial value, so its condition or conservation during transport cannot be guaranteed.
