Elegant 1880s male portrait signed by the renowned Sicilian painter Antonino Gandolfo. Original oil on canvas with contemporaneous carved and gilt wooden frame. Artwork of high collectible value, perfect for professional studios and historic homes.
Subject: Portrait of Mr. Antonino Zappalà Spina (born July 31, 1815).
Author: Antonino Gandolfo (Catania, 1841–1910).
Era: Dated October 31, 1880.

The painting is presented in excellent overall condition. The canvas shows on the back a small, skillful conservation/restoration, performed with artistic care to preserve the integrity of the original support. There are slight and natural pigment losses due to time, which do not compromise the beauty of the work but attest to its absolute authenticity and period.
The work is enhanced by a splendid contemporaneous frame in wood and gilded plaster, richly carved with period ornamental motifs. The frame bears normal signs of aging that confer charm and character to the piece, confirming its originality and historical value.
