Description from the seller
New series – Contemporary Photomosaics
David Law
Photographer-artist – Creator of Contemporary Imagery
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to shop-window mannequons, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This research on gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Attracted next by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new corpus of works based on artistic photomosaics and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is developed from a multitude of microvisual fragments generated using current graphic tools, then selected, structured and meticulously recombined by the artist. From afar, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of subtly interwoven elements. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, a constant insistence on visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the fabrication of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular work.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with a built-in rear mounting. Printing on luminous white vinyl, affixed between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary rendering.
Background
Since 2014, David Law has participated in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the dedicated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops work as an author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photobook and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
