Biography
André Butzer (born 1973 in Stuttgart) is among the most influential contemporary artists in Germany. His works move between abstraction and figuration, in which he has developed a distinctive visual language characterized by expressive colors, strong contrasts, and iconic figures. He is particularly known for his so-called "Fantaworld", a universe he created in which art history, pop culture, and utopian visions merge. Characteristic of this world are his "NASAHEIM" figures, distorted cartoon-like beings with oversized eyes and minimalist forms, reminiscent of comics and Expressionism.
Butzer's Fantaworld reflects a blend of consumer culture, German history, and utopian concepts—a place that oscillates between dream and nightmare. The color Fanta-orange plays a central role, symbolizing both childlike joy and artificiality, underscoring Butzer's deep engagement with painting and society. His works are shown internationally and are represented in prestigious collections.
