Description from the seller
In 1990 I met an artist on the occasion of one of my exhibitions. This painting by Mark Kostabi — one of his unfinished projects from 1987 for a later work inspired by Magritte — was given to me by him, who, in turn, was personally friends with Kostabi. At that time I also painted surrealist-inspired works, one of which I gave him as a gift and he, in return, gave me Kostabi's work. I was very happy about it, because in it, as an initial project, I could observe the artist's preparatory work. I find it particularly unusual and, in this sense, very rare. The work is signed in pencil on the back by the author, who simply marks it with an “s” that I assume stands for sketch. Obviously, as such, it cannot be expected to have a certificate of authenticity. However the artist's signature and the work's completion are unequivocal."} } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } } }}}} } } } } } } } }}}}
