Pedi Da Lodi (Pietro Zamproni)
"The Musician"
from the exhibition "Faces and Characters" of 2012
Period: 1950/1960
Oil on canvas in an era frame
Large size/ in frame: 89 x 78 cm
The exceptional nature of Pedi Da Lodi's works lies above all in their dimension as true primitives, as an artist who paints without formalism but only because driven by an inner necessity that does not respond to any preconception or any heritage derived from study or tradition: for Pedi art is an innate need.
He was born in Spino d’Adda on October 11, 1903 in a modest family. He obtained the teaching diploma and, after passing the public competition, began teaching at the elementary schools in Codogno..
He had long enjoyed drawing, but he began his painting activity regularly and continuously only in 1945. Due to the economic hardships he started painting in tempera on cardboard obtained from boxes or on plywood.
1955 was the turning year: his works began to attract the interest of art experts, who underscored their artistic value. He died on January 25, 1996 at 93 years old, in Lodi.
Anthologies were dedicated to the painter in 1988 and 2002. Pedi Da Lodi's paintings are in the collections of the Croatian Museum of Naive Art in Zagreb and the Charlotte Zander Museum in Bönnigheim, Germany.
* In the city of Lodi a street has been dedicated to him
* Recently a substantial collection of his has been acquired by an important banking group for a historical and artistic reevaluation
* In 2012 the Municipality of Lodi organized the retrospective “Faces and Landscapes,” a posthumous solo show
* Published in 2023 an article in Arting News Magazine titled “Pedi da Lodi, the painter of the people who told the twentieth century”
Awards and recognitions have been conferred on him
His works are in private Italian and foreign collections.
Ideal for collecting and investment given the historical and artistic reevaluation of the author
Collezione Magnolia Arte
Spedizione assicurata
* In good conservation condition - It should be noted that defects in the painting support are to be considered peculiarities and characteristics of the works themselves, since the author used to paint on poor materials and found objects. Therefore in Pedi Da Lodi's works it is customary to find imperfections and gaps that are the narrative of a style, and of a necessity.
