Description from the seller
* This work has been created without the use of Artificial Intelligence.
Rococo is a staged artistic photograph inspired by the iconic figure of Marie Antoinette, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of the opulence, excess, and Hedonism of the 18th century. The piece combines historical references with pop irreverence, transforming a symbol of aristocratic power into a playful and provocative image.
The elaborate period dress, the powdered wig, and the delicate lace immediately recall the French court aesthetic and the theatrical refinement of Rococo. However, the unexpected gesture of the heart-shaped candy brought to the lips breaks the portrait’s solemnity and creates a visual tension between protocol and desire, duty and indulgence.
More than faithfully reconstructing a historical image, the work reflects on the theatrics of power and its close relationship with representation and spectacle. By fusing Rococo elements with a contemporary visual language, Rococo invites the viewer to question how concepts such as luxury, femininity, and authority are built and consumed.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Lídia Vives (1991) is a photographer and visual artist based in Barcelona. Her work has been published in magazines such as Vogue Italia and Esquire, and has been exhibited internationally in prestigious museums and galleries such as the Louvre (Paris) and the Saatchi Gallery (London).
With a painterly, symbolic, and narratively very recognizable style, Lídia creates images full of color, emotion, and hidden details — her characteristic easter eggs — that invite careful and deep observation.
She has participated in several international contemporary art fairs, and her work has been shown around the world. Among the upcoming notable dates are Art Fair Daegu (South Korea) and the Affordable Art Fair Vienna (Austria), where her work will again engage diverse audiences and collectors from all over.
