Description from the seller
Jacques Villon [Gaston Duchamp] (1875-1963).
"Pastorale".
Litograph, handsigned and numbered, 1960.
Published by Louis Broder, Paris, 1960.
One of 70 copies on heavy weight laid paper with deckle edges. Size: 37 x 50 cm.
In excellent condition.
Mounted without adhesives (visible and without a passe-partout) in an antique solid wood frame with glass.
With minor imperfections, some overpainting. Please see the photographs. Size: 69 x 57 x 4 cm.
A magnificent work by Duchamp's brother, in keeping with the Cubist abstraction he embraced. While still retaining Impressionist reminiscences from his early period, Villon's greatest achievement as a printmaker was the creation of a purely graphic language for Cubism.
Extraordinary.
