Description from the seller
Anton Heyboer – Vinkevener
The word Vinkevener refers to Vinkeveen, the place where Anton Heyboer lived and worked for a long time. Heyboer felt a strong connection to this environment and saw his life there as part of his art. In his work this returns as personal, direct and often symbolic imagery that refers to his own world. Vinkevener shows how Heyboer made his identity and living environment the subject, thereby developing a unique, idiosyncratic artistic language.
Anton Heyboer (1924-2005)
Because of his unconventional way of living, Anton Heyboer belonged to the most eccentric Dutch artists of the past decades. His turbulent lifestyle was reflected in five marriages. He also described himself as 'the Robin Hood of the art world,' referring to his prolific artistic output. Heyboer trained as a mechanical engineer. After World War II he began drawing, albeit still in a traditional style. Between 1954 and 1957 he developed his own philosophical framework on the basis of which his abstract artworks emerged. Yet figurative elements always remain in his paintings and etchings. At the same time, Heyboer clarified the themes of his work with texts, in which human relationships often play a role.
Size of the work without frame: 80 x 110 cm
Viewings are, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framer, who is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. Furthermore we work with restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, of course we would be happy to hear from you.
