Joris van Spaendonck, Etiket I, a hand-signed ink artwork from 1998 in Realism, original edition, measuring 53 by 43 cm, Netherlands; sold by Galerie; in good condition.
Description from the seller
Joris van Spaendonck sets himself apart with his unique approach to materials in painting. For him, branches, flowers, and trees are merely accessories, at most a prop. Paint and textile take center stage and, in themselves, form an intriguing subject. In his studio he welcomes an eclectically gathered array of materials, ranging from finds on military dumps to fabrics from suppliers and even used jeans from thrift shops. He affectionately calls these materials painting-studio relics, which seemingly lie around his studio with casual ease, but eventually become the core of his most valuable compositions in his paintings.
The daily walks Joris takes in nature provide a constant source of inspiration. He draws his ideas from trees, branches, flowers, moss, and bark. The changing seasons, the organic structures on tree bark, and the beautiful colors that nature offers in every season continue to fascinate him. He brings these impressions to his studio, where he transforms them into original, idiosyncratic translations.
