Description from the seller
Joris van Spaendonck distinguishes himself with his unique approach to materials in painting. For him, twigs, flowers and trees are only accessories, at most a prop. Paint and textiles are central and, in themselves, form an intriguing subject. In his studio he welcomes an eclectic collection of materials, ranging from finds at military dumps to fabrics from suppliers and even used jeans from second-hand shops. He lovingly calls these materials painter's studio relics, which seemingly lie about his studio with casual ease, but eventually grow into the core of his most valuable compositions in his paintings.
The daily walks Joris takes in nature provide a constant source of inspiration. He draws his ideas from trees, twigs, flowers, mosses and bark. The changing seasons, organic structures on tree bark, and the beautiful colors that nature offers in every season continue to fascinate him. He brings these impressions into his studio, where he transforms them into idiosyncratic translations.
