Description from the seller
This painting is executed in mixed technique and made by Robbert Fortgens (1960). Fortgens was born in Utrecht, studied at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and today lives and works in Antwerp. In his early oeuvre he drew inspiration from photographic realism, but after seeing Willem de Kooning's work in 1988 he made a radical artistic turn toward abstract expressionism. Characteristic of his mature work is the fusion of painting and photography: two seemingly opposing disciplines that he unites in one visual language. By playing with paint, photography and layering, Fortgens explores the tension between perception and imagination, resulting in a rich, multi-layered and contemporary body of work.
