Description from the seller
AUTORE
Mario Victorio Dini (1901-?) Italian painter. Born in the hamlet of Colle di Buggiano, in the province of Pistoia, he grew up immersed in the world of art thanks to his father, a well-known antiquarian who early encouraged his talent. This domestic formation, together with a deep observation of the Pistoian countryside, led him to develop a painting style strongly rooted in the post-Micciolo tradition. His career, pursued steadily up to the Eighties, saw him as the protagonist of important national exhibitions in cities such as Milan, Rome and Cortina d’Ampezzo, consolidating his reputation as a careful chronicler of the Tuscan landscape.
Dini’s poetics are expressed through a tactile and vibrant brushstroke, capable of transforming rural views, isolated farmhouses and rolling hillside paths into images charged with atmospheric suggestion. His works, like Porta di Massa or Strada in Collina, avoid abstraction to celebrate a daily reality made of light and volumes, typical of the Val di Nievole.
DESCRIZIONE
"Scena di Genere, Al Solicello", oil on panel, 46*40 cm with frame, 18*24 cm the panel alone, 1974, signed bottom right. On the back, title, date and signature.
The painting captures a moment of daily quiet typical of Tuscan rural life. The subject portrays four elderly men seated side by side, caught in a moment of outdoor rest, probably enjoying the warmth of the low sun that gives the painting its title. The figures are characterized by clothing typical of peasant classes, with wide-brimmed hats and walking sticks. The author transforms a simple country life shot into a choral narrative of the human condition and silent conviviality.
From a technical standpoint, the composition unfolds along a horizontal axis where the figures, though close, maintain their own spatial individuality thanks to a brushstroke of a clearly post-Macchiaiolo matrix. Dini lays on color with dense, material strokes, working by patches of light and shadow that build the volumes without the need for sharp outlines. The color palette plays on warm earth tones, browns and olive greens, contrasted with a bright, vibrant background that emphasizes the luminous afternoon atmosphere. This work fits perfectly into the artist’s poetics, faithful interpreter of the Tuscan reality and the late-Mmacchiaiolo school. A painting with fresh execution and pleasant aesthetic impact.
CONDITION REPORT
Good overall condition, work intact in every part with vivid and readable chroma and brushwork. The frame is to be considered a compliment.
Tracked and insured shipment with proper packaging.
