Jan Sluijters' mixed media drawing Moeder en kinderen, signed by hand, in good condition, from the Netherlands, 85 cm high by 48 cm wide, depicting a woman with two children; original edition, sold by Galerie.
Description from the seller
This is a mixed-media drawing by Jan Sluijters (1881-1957). With a combination of pencil and pastel, he depicts a woman with two children. The fine pencil lines form the basis of the composition, while he adds subtle, colored pastel accents, among others in the eyes and the collars of the figures. These details give the work extra liveliness and make the whole piece particularly engaging.
In addition to landscapes and cityscapes, Sluijters produced a lot of portraits in particular. He is especially known for this, although he worked in a variety of styles, his art remained figurative in nature. Jan Sluijters belongs to the pioneers of modernism in the Netherlands. In his ongoing quest for new means of expression, he introduced a renewed use of light and color in Dutch painting and made an important contribution to the development of modern art in the Netherlands.
