Description from the seller
This is a drawing by Jan Sluijters, depicting a nude, reclining woman who is wearing only her shoes. She looks ahead, not directly at the viewer, giving the presentation a restrained and contemplative character. It is a pencil drawing on paper, presented in a neat frame.
Besides landscapes and city views, Sluijters produced many portraits in particular. He is especially known for his female portraits, both clothed and nude. Although he worked in a variety of styles, his art remained figurative throughout. Jan Sluijters is among the pioneers of modernism in the Netherlands. In his ongoing search for new forms of expression, he introduced an innovative use of light and color within Dutch painting and thereby made an important contribution to the development of modern art in the Netherlands.
