Enzo Pasqui, Italian (1920–1998), Speranza di sereno, an original oil on masonite from the 1960s, 61 x 81 cm including the frame, signed by hand and in good condition, sold with the frame.

Enzo Pasqui began his drawing career very early, although he had qualified as an accountant. His inclination toward art consistently characterized his life, which led him, among other experiences, after the outbreak of the Second World War, to volunteer in the Bersaglieri corps.
After the war, Enzo Pasqui resumed his studies and earned a degree in economics, finding work at the Registry Office, where he became director. At the same time, following a natural predisposition for painting and graphic art, he designed furnishings for shops, dedicated himself to caricature, painting, and advertising graphics. He was also an inventor, as demonstrated by the hull design of a Gilera 125, the multi-gear changes for bicycles, and a silencer for a machine gun. A talented painter, his artistic activity unfolded in 83 solo exhibitions, of which two were abroad; 34 group exhibitions abroad with 12 awards or mentions; 517 national group exhibitions with 191 awards or mentions; 120 en plein air works, with 66 awards or mentions. In total, he participated in 754 exhibitions over half a century of artistic activity and received 269 recognitions.
Pasqui's production mainly consisted of oil paintings on Masonite, numbered and cataloged by the artist himself, who thus demonstrated, both personally and professionally, a particular penchant for precision and preservation.
His works are characterized by depictions where people, women or men, are always portrayed with their backs to the viewer, and it is both difficult and stimulating to follow the theme of the “face” in Pasqui's works. Because often there is none, it does not appear... most will recall figures looking in the same direction as the viewer of the painting, yet their gaze does not cross. One only sees the nape of the neck, often covered by hats or colored scarves, red. Just as in these works the face is often not visible, the soul is not visible either, though it exists, conveying the emotion and deep feeling the artist pours into his work. One senses the force that conveys authenticity and meaning. The soul indeed represents the most intimate part of the artist: his fears, hopes, conflicts, desires. Moreover, when one says that a work “has a soul,” it means it can touch the viewer deeply, evoking irony, reflection, emotion, or astonishment....
