Description

Beautiful Japanese Satsuma earthenware dish, made in the Meiji period (ca. 1890–1910) for the European export market.

The dish is richly decorated with figural scenes and floral motifs, executed in polychrome enamel with abundant use of gold (moriage). Typically ivory-colored glaze with fine craquelé, characteristic of Satsuma ware from this period.
