Description from the seller
"Silenzio marino" by Carlo Trevisan is an oil on canvas of 60x80 cm that explores the theme of waiting and metaphysical immobility.
The centerpiece of the work is a female figure, a girl or a young woman, depicted frontally and statue-like. She wears a wide white hat, a light blouse, and a dark skirt. The face is without distinct features, a choice that transforms the subject into a universal and anonymous icon, amplifying the sense of mystery. The figure rests on a flat, whitish surface that blends with the horizon. In the background, small details punctuate the void: a distant sailing boat, a solitary seagull in flight, and a tiny human figure in motion, elements that emphasize the immensity of the surrounding space.
Trevisan uses a clean and blended painting technique, typical of his poetic approach to reality: here a palette of beige, grays, and ochres dominates. The sky is laden with stratified clouds that filter warm but diffuse light, creating a suspended, almost dreamlike atmosphere.
The sharp shadow cast by the girl to the right suggests grazing light, typical of late afternoon hours, and once again recalls Giorgio de Chirico’s painting for its ability to render time as "frozen."
The title "Silenzio marino" perfectly describes the viewer’s experience: it is not a silence of absence, but a dense silence, made of reflection and inner peace. The girl seems to look beyond the observer, projected toward an infinity that the artist manages to enclose within the boundaries of the canvas.
