Description from the seller
This striking pair of bronze Centaurs with marble bases dates to the 20th century and forms part of a sculptural terzina (a set of three figures). The two works represent mythological centaurs — half man and half horse — captured in dynamic, expressive poses that convey movement, strength and classical vitality.
Each centaur is finely modeled: the muscular equine bodies contrast harmoniously with the carefully sculpted human torsos. One figure turns dramatically backward, emphasizing tension and anatomical detail, while the other raises his arm in a triumphant, celebratory gesture, enhancing the sense of rhythm and narrative dialogue between the two sculptures. The composition reflects the enduring fascination with Greco-Roman mythology and the academic sculptural tradition.
The bronzes display a rich, dark patina consistent with 20th-century production, showing natural aging and surface character that enhance their decorative and collectible appeal. Both sculptures rest on elegant rectangular marble bases, whose green-toned veining provides a refined chromatic contrast to the warm bronze.
These centaurs are ideal as statement pieces for an interior, library, studio, or classical-inspired setting. Displayed together, they create a balanced and theatrical ensemble.
