Born in the Republic of San Marino in 1938, during his childhood Giangiacomo Spadari moved to Rome, from where in 1961 he set off for Milan; in the Lombard city he developed his artistic career, spending from 1972 also long stays in Paris. The long and articulated series of solo exhibitions began in 1961 at the Spotorno Gallery in Milan, where the artist’s work was presented to the public; among the most important exhibitions are remembered the surveys at the Gian Ferrari Gallery in Milan in 1965, La contestazione autorizzata at the Libreria Einaudi in Milan in 1966, at Bergamini in Milan in 1968, Due o tre cose che so di politica at the Schwarz Gallery in Milan in 1970, La Rosa e il Leone also at the Schwarz Gallery in Milan in 1972, Rosa Luxemburg, una vita per il socialismo at Galerie Poll in Berlin in 1973, at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels also in 1973, at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris – ARC 2 in Paris in 1974, Garibaldi e il compromesso storico at the Borgogna Gallery in Milan in 1975, Immagini da film at the Rizzardi Gallery in Milan in 1976, Tra cronaca e storia: il 1968 at Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara in 1979, Il tempo della natura at the Bergamini Gallery in Milan in 1982, La pitié de l’amour at Galerie Bercovy-Fugier in Paris in 1988, I paesaggi della Biennale di Venezia at the Museo d’Arte Moderna della Repubblica di San Marino in 1989, Giangiacomo Spadari at Palazzo Ducale di Pavullo nel Frignano (Modena) in 1990, I sette peccati capitali at Galleria L’Eroica in Milan in 1992, Amarcord at Galerie du Centre in Paris in 1993, Autobiografia at Studio Spaggiari in Milan in 1996. The artist dies in Milan in 1997. In 2007 at Galleria Annunciata in Milan the exhibition Spadari un pittore europeo curated by W. Guadagnini is held. In 2010 the Fundación Martínez Guerricabeitia hosts a Spadari cronista visual retrospective at the University of Valencia in Spain. In 2016 the museum of Villa Tamaris in La Seyne-sur-Mer dedicates to him the anthological Spadari, un franctireur de l’image.
