Description from the seller
Oorschot, Th. van Oorschot, Theo van Oorschot born 1910-1989
Oorschot, Th (Theodorus) van Oorschot (1910-1989) His fame is due to painting splendid landscapes, beautiful still lifes in which he, with the simplest objects, knows how to create the right atmosphere and where flowers form a guiding thread in his work. Time and again he manages to find a healthy harmony between humans and nature. His work radiates simplicity, realism, and seriousness of life. In everything surrounding humans there is always something to discover in beauty. "Always a horizon" For Dorus van Oorschot, behind the horizon there lay always the new, the different; thus his work was always in motion and development, work that was never finished. According to Dorus, he would have looked over the horizon. "Dorus" is a painter who stands in the tradition of the plein-air painters, which emerged in France in the years after 1830 and led to the so-called Barbizon school. The changed ideas and opinions of these landscape painters, among others about painting in the open air, were absorbed in the Netherlands by painters of the Hague and Larense schools. For Dorus these painters were guiding, as well as the Amsterdam impressionists with their loose and fluent painting style. His early paintings are mostly dark in tone and laid out in flat areas, while the paint is applied heavily with a palette knife or brush; later canvases can also be light-toned and drawing-like in character, and the handling reveals the influence of watercolor technique. The expressive force in his work lies less in details than in the overall impression and the rich use of colors that strongly determine the atmosphere or mood of the work
