BIOGRAPHY: Gérard VIELLEVIE is a French painter, born in La Queue-les-Yvelines, near Paris, in 1939. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. A student of the classics and former pupil of the renowned national college of decorative arts in Paris, he draws inspiration from post-impressionist art and creates sculptures and mosaics based on his inherent interest in this style. He began making bas-reliefs, sculptures and frescoes for numerous schools and town halls in cities such as Paris, Cannes, Strasbourg, Lille and Saint-Tropez, which now exist in many hotels in these cities. He was close to the painter Paul Aïzpiri.
Steadfast to the tradition of the major post-impressionist painters such as Van Gogh, Vieillevie's work consists of still lifes, lush gardens and flora. His work has been exhibited in Paris, Tokyo, Osaka and Seoul, and he received the Gold Medal of the International Lion's Club for painting (1974). He died in 1992. Posthumously, in 1993, a major exhibition at the Katia Granoff Gallery was devoted to him.
