Description from the seller
Giuseppe Abbati was born in Naples in 1836 and died prematurely in 1868 in Florence. He was one of the protagonists of the Macchiaioli painting movement, a group of artists active mainly in Tuscany in the second half of the nineteenth century.
- Description: The scene depicts a suggestive architectural corner of a courtyard with arches and a staircase, a typical interest of the artist in urban spaces and the rendering of natural light. Abbati is known for his intimate views and for the use of the “macchia” painting, elements that place him among the protagonists of the renewal of Italian painting in the nineteenth century. On the back there is an authentic declaration with the stamp of M. Borgiotti
"Dipinto dal vero all'(...?)
(....) da me personalmente dall'artista."
- Signed and dated by hand at the bottom right
- Condition of the work: good. Signs of time and wear to the edges, small abrasions and losses of color, varnish slightly yellowed. Support stable.
