Magnificent and expressive original print by Mario Schifano (Homs 1934 – Rome 1998), one of the greatest representatives of post-war Italian painting, an iconic figure of Italian Pop Art, Arte Povera and postmodernism.

Year: 1990
Technique: Etching (engraving), aquatint and calcography (chalcography) in 5 colors, executed in mixed media graphic style that is very gestural and pictorial.
Technique: Etching (engraving), aquatint and calcography (chalcography) in 5 colors, executed in mixed media graphic very gestural and pictorial.
Publisher / Printer: Torcular (visible watermark and embossing on the paper)
Edition: 150 numbered copies + artist proofs / letters (A-Z + XXX + etc.) + HC
Copy: 5/150 (numbered in pencil at the bottom left)
Dimensions:
Image / plate ≈ 51 × 38 cm (visible in your photos)
Sheet ≈ 70 × 50 cm (with generous margins)
Signature: Hand-signed in pencil by the artist at the bottom right (typical Schifano with a large stylized “S” followed by a horizontal stroke).
The work presents an expressive and dynamic abstract composition: a nocturnal landscape evocative with a central arched form (like a tent, a mountain, or a stylized volcanic silhouette), topped by a moon, gestural curves, drippings and a deep red background contrasting with the deep blue of the sky. The black crosses add a symbolic and mysterious dimension, typical of Schifano’s mature period.
Condition: Excellent, vivid and fresh colors, never framed, clean margins, no creases or tears visible. High-quality laid paper with Torcular watermark.
Authenticity: Original Torcular certificate of authenticity (supplied with the work).
Rare work on the market, catalogued in recent auctions (Finarte, Il Ponte, etc.), often in the form of artist proofs (P.A.), here a regular copy from the main edition, highly sought after.
Perfect for collectors of Schifano, Italian contemporary engraving, or gestural abstract art of the 1990s.
