"Ela é dançarina" is the title chosen by the artist to pay homage, once again, to her favorite and fellow Brazilian songwriter Chico Buarque, inspired by the eponymous piece by the Brazilian maestro.
The work is also executed with a thin spatula, with a slightly tactile finish that lends the support a deliberately “hard” texture. This technical choice functions as a visual counterpoint to the dancer’s delicacy and the lightness of her tutu.
Just as in the verses of the song, the figure emerges in her grace while bearing the marks of discipline and effort: a dichotomy between the enchantment of the stage and the stark reality of a dancer’s life.
Sandra Chinelate, Brazilian, pursues a physical and existential inquiry carried out with the tools of figurative painting. Since 2006 she has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows. She works with oil and mixed media on canvas and panel.
