Description of the work
Original photograph belonging to the renowned series “The Sun of Pompeii,” made between 1980 and 1983. The work depicts a group of archaeological amphoras arranged in an evocative composition that calls to mind the atmosphere of the ruins of Pompeii.
The photograph was printed directly by the author on handmade Amalfi paper, subsequently sepia-toned, a technique that gives the image a strong tactile quality and a nearly painterly character. The surface of the handmade paper creates an irregular texture that dialogues with the image, turning the photograph into a unique piece halfway between photography and painting.
The series The Sun of Pompeii arises from the impression evoked by the archaeological excavations of the Roman city and consists of 31 photographs sized 50×70 cm with this particular technique of printing on Amalfi paper.

Artist biography
Enzo Rosamilia (Auletta, Salerno, March 8, 1955) is an Italian photographer and artist active in contemporary photographic research. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples and since the 1970s has dedicated himself to artistic photography and advertising graphics.
Since 1978 he has developed a personal technique based on photographic printing on emulsioned Amalfi paper, a handmade paper traditionally used for watercolors and artistic works. This technique, combined with toning and manual interventions, gives his images a unique painterly character.
Rosamilia has taught photography at the Sabatini-Menna Artistic High School in Salerno and is the author of numerous photographic series dedicated to historical memory, matter, and the marks of time.
His works have been shown in galleries, museums, and international festivals and are part of public and private collections in several countries, including Italy, France, Spain, Brazil, Russia, Belgium, and South Korea.
