Description from the seller
Koen van den Broek (1973)
N.Y. (2010)
Highly sought-after work by the internationally acclaimed Belgian artist Koen van den Broek, one of the leading European painters of his generation. His work is held in major museum collections and shown worldwide.
This work “N.Y.” from 2010 belongs to an early and important period in Van den Broek’s oeuvre, in which his distinctive visual language emerges: fragments of the urban landscape reduced to powerful geometric compositions. The artist often starts from his own photography and strengthens the structure of the image by drawn lines over the photographic surface — a technique that is clearly visible in this piece as well.
The print was produced for the exhibition “Curbs & Cracks” at S.M.A.K., Ghent, which gives the work extra historical relevance within his artistic development.
Key features:
• Year: 2010
• Medium: Offset print on paper
• Hand-signed and numbered by the artist
• Limited edition of only 50 copies
• Large format: 70 × 46 cm
• In very good condition
• Includes frame and certificate of authenticity
The large format combined with the small edition makes this a particularly attractive collectable print. Moreover, works from this early period around 2010 are increasingly hard to find on the market.
A powerful and visually striking work that perfectly demonstrates the transition between photography, drawing and painting — typical of Koen van den Broek’s oeuvre.
An excellent opportunity for collectors of contemporary Belgian art.
