Intrusive Thought is a unique wall-mounted work composed entirely of original Rubik’s Cubes.
The composition presents a stylised and distorted human face emerging from a rigid modular grid. Each cube functions simultaneously as pixel and physical object, translating a digital visual language into a tactile mechanical structure.
Within this ordered field, a single red square interrupts the system. The gaze of the figure is drawn toward this isolated point, generating a moment of tension within the otherwise controlled composition.
In the lower-left area, a cluster of scattered white squares disrupts the regular grid, introducing a secondary field of visual disturbance within the structure.
From a distance the work appears as an abstract geometric pattern; only gradually does the face become perceptible, revealing a psychological presence embedded within the modular system.
Unique piece.
Hand-signed on the reverse.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity with archival hologram.
The work is ready to hang and fitted with a concealed French cleat mounting system. It will be professionally packed and shipped.
Giovanni Contardi is an Italian artist internationally recognised for his mosaics created entirely from original Rubik’s Cubes. His work transforms one of the most iconic objects of the 20th century into a contemporary artistic medium defined by a distinctive, recognisable visual language.
His relationship with the Rubik’s Cube began in 2009 through competitive speedcubing, where he developed a high level of technical mastery. In 2013, he began translating this expertise into Rubik’s Cube mosaics, and by 2018 this exploration had evolved into a full-time artistic practice, gaining international attention across the fields of contemporary art, design, and pop culture.
