Description from the seller
THE APOSTLE is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. In this painting a classical sculptural head emerges suspended before a geometric and silent architecture. The figure, bodiless, seems embedded in an intensely yellow wall, as if the past had been trapped in the modern structure. Its empty, stone-like gaze does not observe: it remains.
The composition establishes a dialogue between times. The sculpture evokes Greco-Roman tradition, the solemnity of marble, cultural heritage. Yet the surroundings —with defined planes, long shadows and a clear sky— refer to the metaphysical language: deserted urban spaces, austere architecture, tension between light and silence.
In the foreground, a red flower rises delicately yet firmly. Next to it, a thorny branch projects a marked shadow on the ground. Both elements function as opposing symbols: life and wound, beauty and sacrifice. The flower, organic and vibrant, contrasts with the mineral immobility of the head. The branch suggests pain, martyrdom or test.
The yellow wall acts as a symbolic field. It is not merely a backdrop, but a presence. It divides the scene into blocks of pure color — black, blue, yellow — which structure the image with almost architectural clarity. The defined shadows intensify the sense of a frozen hour, of a suspended moment.
The Apostle can be read as a reflection on faith, memory and permanence. The classical head represents tradition, the transmission of legacy. The flower suggests hope. The thorn recalls the sacrifice inherent in every belief or testimony.
A work that combines lyricism and solemnity, where metaphysical language meets spiritual symbolism in a scene of deep stillness and poetic tension.
