For sale is an evocative oil painting by the Greek artist M. Matsakis from 1965. The work presents a characteristic Greek village scene, presumably in the Cyclades. The artist uses a thick impasto and a bright palette to perfectly capture the blinding light and the cubist shapes of traditional architecture.
Notably, the vibrant depiction of the vegetation (a shady balcony with grapevines) provides a beautiful contrast to the gleaming white walls of the houses. The work is signed and dated at the bottom left as well as on the back.
