Description from the seller

RÖHLING, Johann Christoph (1757-1813) - Deutschlands Flora (Flore d’Allemagne).
Edition revised and continued by Franz Carl Mertens and Wilhelm Daniel Joseph Koch.
Frankfurt am Main, Friedrich Wilmans, 1826. Volume 1 only. Octavo, 659 pages. Contemporary half-morocco binding. Some signs of wear and rubbing as visible in the photos. Smooth spine, title piece in morocco. A sturdy work and in good overall condition.

A monument of German botany from the early 19th century, Deutschlands Flora constitutes one of the fundamental works devoted to the systematic description of the flora of the German-speaking realm. Initiated by the botanist Johann Christoph Röhling, the work was continued after his death by the naturalists Mertens and Koch, two major figures in German botany.

The work describes with great precision the plant species encountered in the various German states and neighboring regions. Each species is the subject of a detailed scientific description, accompanied by synonyms, habitat indications and taxonomic remarks according to the botanical knowledge of the time.
