Description from the seller
Delightful painting by Eugène PETIT (1838-1886) which depicts a Gordon Setter and an English Setter at rest in the heather in front of a flock of ducks taking flight. The color nuances of the vegetation provide a very pretty contrast to the work and give it a wild appearance.
Eugène PETIT was a pupil of Ed. Muller and Dieterle. He began at the Paris Salon in 1863 and won a medal in 1873. He specialized in still lifes of flowers and fruits, and he is also recognized for his hunting scenes.
His works are in the museums of Carcassonne, Compiègne, Courtrai, Rouen, Saint-Étienne, London...
Eugène PETIT’s hunting scenes are highly sought after by collectors and can exceed 5,000 euros at auctions or in galleries!

46 x 55 cm (with a 20th-century frame, slight losses and retouching to the gilding, about 58 x 67 cm)
